All faculty are invited to participate in African Studies lectures, colloquia, symposia, conferences and special events. Information about these events is sent out in the weekly African Studies Update and can be found in the African Studies on-line newsletter “Toguna.” For some events we also send flyers or posters to all affiliated faculty to post in their department. If you would like to receive the weekly update, contact Acacia Nikoi to be added to the listserv.
If you have a paper you are preparing or research that you would like to present, you may want to consider presenting in a brown bag session. Brown Bag sessions are an opportunity for Africanist faculty to present their research to African Studies faculty in other disciplines and to the African Studies students. This format has been developed at the request of faculty members who do not necessarily know the research interests of faculty in other departments. The Brown Bag discussions will take place Thursdays from 12-1, weeks 2-9 in the Yamada House Seminar Room. If you would like to present, contact Acacia Nikoi to schedule a time.
Many faculty wish to bring specialists in their areas of interest to campus to present lectures. Limited financial resources are available to help defray the costs of guest speakers. Additionally, we can help with finding a room and time that doesn’t conflict with African Studies classes or other activities. Fill out a Guest Speaker form and return it to African Studies the quarter before you would like to invite your guest.
