Graduate Financial Aid

The African Studies Program offers tuition scholarships and graduate associateships on a competitive basis for the study of Africa. U.S. citizens are eligible for Foreign Language and Area Study FLAS Fellowships supported by the U.S. Department of Education. Please write to the center for further details. If you would like to be considered for financial assistance indicate on the admission application form. January 1 is the deadline for consideration for financial assistance. Students applying from abroad should also consult with the American Consulate for additional information about financial aid for study in the United States. African Languages at Ohio University

FLAS Fellowships are available for the study of African languages taught at Ohio University. The following African Languages are taught through the linguistics department:

  • Swahili
  • Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL). Languages taught this year are: Akan, Gikuyu, Somali, Sudanese Arabic, Standard Arabic, Swahili, Tigrinya and Wolof.
